For Anabaptist World Fellowship Sunday (AWFS) 2026, Rev. MUSOBWA KISHAKU Ernest, representative for Kivu — the fourth district of Mennonite World Conference (MWC) — issues a compelling call: « In this time when the church and its members are being persecuted and are victims of wars that have bereaved many families, it is urgent to place unity, peace and solidarity at the heart of the work of evangelism. »
MWC has prepared rich liturgical resources for this annual day of shared worship celebrated by member congregations around the world. These include liturgies for gathering and benediction, inviting communities to light five candles — one for each continent — around a central Christ candle, as a symbolic act of global unity in faith.
Among the sermons offered, one draws on Micah 6:8 and explores the theme of sharing through a vivid image: picking strawberries in a field in the Swiss Jura. The central message — those who share have more — resonates with MWC's invitation to a special offering, asking each member to contribute the equivalent of one meal, in support of the networks and resources of the global Anabaptist community.
Testimonies from Europe reflect on solidarity lived out in practice — notably on the island of Lesbos — in the spirit of 1 Corinthians 13:13: faith, hope and love, with the greatest being love. Practical celebration ideas and symbolic actions are also provided to help local congregations mark the day meaningfully.
AWFS remains an annual moment for MWC member churches to worship together in spirit, using shared liturgical resources, and reaffirming their belonging to one global Anabaptist family of faith.
